My favorite festival when shopping for ‘shagun ka samaan’ becomes a pleasure. Bangles, sindoor, ribbons etc. items which ordinarily play little or no part in my daily life, suddenly assume significance. I am off with hubby who I have coerced to accompany me. ‘ Its for him isnt it, the fast I mean. Then he ought to earn it :). Will update a pic of my mehdi ‘d hands soon.
ok as promised..the mehdiwali has left after almost 4 hours of some really detail work. She was just about 20 and so talented. Pics prove it.

Oh wow!!I know very little of this festival except for what one sees in movies. Must be fun for the wives. sajna savarna and all of those things. Is it fun for the men too? I know they feel highly important today but what do they have to do in the day. Btw.. lovely mehdi and hands 🙂

Thanks Krishnan. On the mans role, well all I can say is I am blessed to have one who for many years fasted with me. Now I plead with him not to since its not feasible. But he mostly ensures that he spends the day with me and clicks snaps like the ones posted. The lighting from the blinds had to be to his specifications and the tripod had to be tilted on the glass while my mehndi and me had to wait and wait. The results were fantastic as you can see.But as the tradition implies, this is meant to be day of fasting and prayer for the welfare, health and happiness for your husband and children. I am no different from other Indian women who feels most satisfied when her family is happy. So what is one day in a year to do your bit for that promise?

Yes my husband is thoughtful and even kept the fast yesterday despite my entreaties to the opposite. AAp bhi kabhi shopping ka lutf utha lijiye biwi ji ke saath. Believe me unke dil se nikli hui duaayein door talak jaayengi 🙂

Thanks rud:) Actually all of the credit should be divided between my mehndiwali for the effort and hubby for clicking the pics with all his paraphernalia. I was just a ..umm clothes hanger:)

Thanx.. you should try it sometime. Have been to Singapore on several occasions in the past. Simply love that place! I am sure youd find a mehndi wali considering the large Indian population there.
