You can listen to the podcast of my tribute in a programme dedicated to the Legendary O.P. Nayyar on PodioIndia Ep 31

O.P. Nayyars demise was a truly sad day for Indian music. His melodies have stood the test of time. A post dedicated to his memory and his music has been the source of much joy for me and his fans and admirers the world over.

The post I had written as a tribute and heartfelt remembrance of his wondrous compositions, has transformed into almost into a Wiki encompassing contributions , news, tidbits, information, on the genius from his fans all over the world..akin to a one stop space for anything to do with O.P. Nayyars life and times.

Its an honor and a treasure I will always feel blessed to have been gifted at Sachiniti.

Please read the link provided for details on the maestro and his life.

Famed music composer from Pakistan, Sohail Rana, one of his ghazals being the unforgettable ‘mujhe tum nazar se gira to rahey ho, mijhe tum kabhi bhi bhula na sakogey’ , visited the blog and speaks of the last call to O.P. Nayyar just a month ago..he pays an emotional tribute to him in the comment section of the post.

His adopted daughter Ashwini Karandikar too speaks, in the comment section .

Ashraft through his comment has informed us of his passion for O.P.Nayyar’s music and that he has laboriously collected every single song composed by the maestro. Incredible! True passion and grit which needs to be lauded. Priceless treasure is now his!

Abed has graciously and magnanimously offered to send cd’s of his collection of Nayyar Sahebs songs to anyone, anywhere.

Hemant, who had the good fortune to attend his recordings and experience the wizard at work, provides us with remarkable insights into the maestros recording techniques and his enigmatic personality.

We have been afforded glimpses into his personal life and times, some touching, some controversial.

And a host of other fans who have paid touching tributes to O.P. Nayyar and embellished the post with their contributions listing their favorite melodies..almost encyclopedic in its information.

  3. “Huzurewala, Jaayie aap kahan jayenge,
    ye nazar laut ke aayegi”

India has lost one of the greatest music composer it has ever produced, the one and only O.P.Nayyar,”R.K”, the Rhythm King as he was popularly known in the music industry. I remember the good old days when people use to wait for the release of old movies which had music scored by O.P.Nayyar and the shows were house full for months, just to listen to the songs of O.P.Nayyar again & again. I am proud to have probably the collection of all songs of O.P.Nayyar barring a few cancelled numbers for which my hunt is still on. Whenever I use to visit Mumbai I always had a urge to meet him but somehow I hesitated always and could’nt fulfill my wish to meet him. Till date I have followed & read each and every article published on O.P.Nayyar.

It is sad that Ashaji (Asha Bhonsle)had no comment to make on O.P.Nayyar’s sad demise whom O.P.Nayyar blossomed to great heights.Instead Lataji (Lata Mangeshkar) expressed her condolence and feelings of not being associated with O.P.Nayyar on any of his song which remained as an unfulfilled wish for her.

We all will miss O.P.Nayyar for ever.He won’t be forgotten at all for such are his memorable songs that will always haunt our ears thru radio, television.

I am proud to be associated with the largest collection of fans of O.P.Nayyar, “The Inimitable”.

  9. Kavee,

As promised, I am here, after litsening to your musical tribute to Him on `podioindia! I would recite some of your own tributes, sometime later, but for today, I find it difficult not to say that remembering `Balmaa khulee hawaa me… mehki huyee fizaa me … dil chaahta hai mera behakana idhar udhar …” is like remembering the whole of OP Nayyar !

    Kudos !

  11. Here, I am again, Kavee ! Please permit me to comment upon your choice of songs while paying tribute to the `A T G OPN'( You got it right, it’s All Time Great OP Nayyar !)

I would say that while having chosen one of the rarests of OPN from `Kashmir Ki Kali’, you chose to settle for a more renowned number from `Ek Musafir Ek Haseena” ! Wo’nt you agree with me that `Humko tumhare ishq ne kya kya bana diya’or `Zubaane yaar mun Turki, mun Turki nami daanam, nami daanam nami daanam nami daanam Oye..’would have expressed you even more intensely !

I know, it’s no use talking of one, two or three compositions of his ! He was a world of music !! One might have to look forward to even next birth to be able to come close to what he meant !

This much for today ! Rest, later !
    With regards, as ever,

  15. Dear Kavee & all other `All Time Great OP Nayyar’ Fans,

First of all, a very very very Happy New Year to all ! May the year brings what we desire !!

I am on this site after quite a while. But once here, it’s difficult to resist the temptation of writing. I have just glanced through many comments and surmise that yours ( yes, all of you’rs)and mine own likings of OP’s songs are exactly alike !

I feel overwhelmed reading that Mr C U M Rao has associated every important phase of his life with one or the other of OP’s songs ! Likewise, it’s immensely solacing to see that we all have same feelings for songs like `Phir miloge kabhi is baat ka wada kar lo ….’.

So long, then …but, before I close, I request all of you to visit my recently created blogsite titled `poemsinanylanguage.blogspot.com’ meant to invite the creativity in all of you as the site seeks poems in any language of the world written in Roman script.

with appropriate Regards to you all,

  21. DUETS THAT SWEEP ME AWAY

OP’s great duets are many. In fact, they would run into hundreds. There may be many songs that I like more, even duets, but I list here 10 which sweep me away every time I listen to them. They all have that inimitable, magical signature beat that OP has left behind for us. Here goes:

    1. Mein pyar ka rahi hoon – Asha/Rafi

    2. Humdum mere bhool na jana – Asha/Rafi

    3. Mange ke saath tumhara – Asha/Rafi

    4. Deewana hua badal – Asha/Rafi

    5. Mujhe mera pyar de de – Asha/Rafi

    6. Hath aya hai jab se – Asha/Mahendra K

    7. Khubsurat sathi itni baat – Asha/Kishore

    8. Honton pe hansi ankhon mein – Asha/Rafi

    9. Dil to pehle hee se madhosh – Asha/Rafi

    10.Chehre zara anchal jo aapne – Asha/Mukesh

  23. hi, i m a newcomer to this fantasic club. since early childhood i have been listening to o.p.nayyar saab’s songs. i m 65 now. had a chance to speak to him on phone on his last birth day, just a few days before his demice. i m also fortunate to have some recordings of his songs in his own voice.appropose comment of siraj khan above i’d state that his ‘humne to dil ko aap ke kadamon men rakh diya ” is perhaps his best ever composition.and punarjanam men milungi balam, a private song is also extra ordinary.
