Shirin Juwaley : Winning An Acid Test

Shirin before the attack..youthful hopeful zestful

Shirin Juwale an innocent young bride who was the victim of a criminal act of the highest order, when her husband threw acid on her face , perhaps with the intention to disfigure her forever. Well he did succeed in disfiguring her face, to some extent but failed to make any lasting impact on her indomitable spirit.

Shirin today 16 surgeries later ..confident and whole.

Acid attacks need not always be from a bottle. The tongue suffices magnificently, as is evident when you further read the story of her struggle. The principal of a college, the name of which has been with held by Shirin, out of an act of kindness ( misplaced, I would think) on a request from her to speak to the students of her NGO Palash was met with ““We only want heroes to come here. Not survivors. It does not take courage to survive,” she was told” (more…)

Chicken Soup For The Indian Romantic Soul

This is my fifth year into blogging. Life as a blogger has been rewarding both spiritually and emotionally. Spiritually because it re inforced my belief in the link /cord we all seem bound with, epitomised by the fact that those I have never met appear to be closely connected via a few taps on my keyboard  expressing my thoughts which resonate with a few from all corners of our world on Planet Earth.

Emotionally rewarding..very much so. Take this instance. On my fathers death anniversary since tears wouldnt flow, anguish took the form of a post which depicted the most enchanting and sublime Love story I had personally experienced and witnessed. The love story shared by my parents Dr. Chandar Oberoi and Promilla Oberoi.

Some time back the editor of the Chicken Soup series Raksha Bharadia mailed me her reactions to the story which she read on her own and requested for it to be published in the book.

On February 14th Valentine day the book ‘ Chicken Soup For the Indian Romantic  soul’ was released with my story among the others which make it an unforgettable, heart wrenching read. I am humbled that the story of my parents love has thus been engraved for posterity in the minds of all who read that book. It gives me immense peace coupled with a heartfelt gratefulness to the workings of the Divine spirit.

Please do pick up a copy…you wont regret it.

Om Puri And Wife Nandita Strategise Publicity Stunt For Biography

Update: Have changed the header from ‘Om Puris wife Exposes embarassing truths in biography’ to the present one, for reasons which will be clear on reading through. The past four years of my life as a blogger whence I chose to write on topics after a careful and meticulous pre ponderance so as not to ‘take sides’ undeservedly, provided no cause for regrets. This is the first episode where I confess that I granted too much credibility to Om Puri and allowed my heart to bleed for his alleged predicament. What a sucker I was!!.

Link to the article that made me want to take up cudgels for him, empathise with the sense of victimisation he had (I thought) expressed so honestly, heart breakingly, so here I was holding my ground for Om Puri the old and greying thespian who , as quoted by him, was now a butt of cheap gossip, when it was actually me being taken for a royal ride with my gullibility exposing itself wholly despite the fact that my blogger friends repeatedly warned me that it was merely a premeditated publicity gimmick. Perfect Bride: Dulhan Wohi Jo Saas Man Bhaaye

gurpreet_kaur

If one withers with doubt at the veracity of the axiomatic truth stated in the header, all one needs to do is watch the episodes of  ‘Lux Perfect Bride’ on Star plus every day at 10.30 p.m. I say this with special reference to the quagmire faced by a contestant Gurpreet and her motherpecked would have been hubby Yashdeep, as also Hitesh and his highly potentate Mom.

One would have imagined that times have changed, what with live in relationships a boring reality that evinced hardly an upraised eyebrow, women opting for adopting kids even before matrimony, pre marital sex a humdrum activity, so it was only natural that choice of a bride would be the sole decision of the would be groom. Ach No!! far from true. It was never dulhan wahi jo piya man bhaaye…not in the hinterlands. (more…)

Adultery – A Growing Reality

A random query inviting responses is making its rounds on Facebook presently worded in this fashion’ Woman needs a reason to be unfaithful.. Man needs but.. a woman”. True..I’d say. Not meaning to generalise yet  concurrence is mandatory even if mordant.

A childhood friend, lets call her A, from as far back as school times is presently in a state of shock. Her marriage of 24 years is facing a nightmarish challenge. Having lived a life replete with luxuries and peace, harmony and joy for so long, makes matters worse. Why now? This was the time men return to home to roost.. and she had just discovered that her husband had been having an affair for the past couple of years.

Glaring signs  had made their presence felt for some time now. She had confided in me that she was often embarassed at her husbands sudden lecherous ways. (more…)
