Shahrukh Khan Pays Advance Income Tax Of 27 Crores

shahrukh_khan_064_imdr.jpg

going by last years records for SRK.. theres all reason for him to be upbeat

So he pays an advance tax of 27 CR..Blink blink.. Its true. And this was for nine months, from the months of April 2007 to Dec ’07.

The tabloids and electronic media have gone into a tizzy proclaiming ” King Khan has done it again” or something similar. Needless to add these are the ‘faithfuls’ who stridently announce his supremacy at every given opportunity while simultaneously looking askance covertly at Big B’.

This was reason enough for them to once again clap their hands in glee since Amitabh Bachchan’s complete Khandan was quoted as paying ” Rs 7.1 crore as advance tax: Big B’s chunk of it was Rs 1.8 crore, Abhishek paid Rs 3.7 crore and bahu Aishwarya Rs 1.6 crore.

This is the first instance where one has been made to realise that competition was rampant even in the sphere of tax paying . One would have imagined that the smarter star, avoided it. Kidding! Honestly I just do believe that tax structure in India sucks big time.

Come to think of it..27 Crores is a whopping amount. If spent wisely it could solve Mumbais pot hole problem brilliantly. of course I am not as naive as to believe anything of the kind is even remotely a possibility. It may have burnt a hole in SRK’s pocket but that was the last hole it has anything to do with πŸ™‚

On a conservative or lets say theoretical estimate , even if SRK sincerely is declaring this as 33% of his income for the coming year, it is serious money. The Shah sure knows how to earn his keep. he definitely aint getting no shit end of the stick that makes the monkeys dance. The point however is that while one is not disputing the Star power he commands, yet the contribution of technicians such as director, writer, music director and so on is irrefutable, unarguable. Yet, not only do the stars rake in the moolah, the others, who perhaps work harder for their daily bread will sooner than later come under the IT scanner, often when their income constitutes a figure in decimals comparatively.

Nonetheless kudos to SRK for displaying integrity. It is a role model kind of gesture. Ought to be emulated by the millions who’d rather dodge payment. However at the risk of reiteration, tax structure needs an urgent re hash. One is already burdened with taxes for every product, and then further taxed, over and over again under some pretext or another.

Mumbai is one of the last and perhaps only city in the world where octroi exists. Resultantly, goods and commodities coming in are taxed at the border which escalates prices of essentials whether vegetables or cars.. Why on earth? Its certainly not as if we Mumbai kars are living in conditions which are anywhere close to being envied. Civic amenities are laughable, property prices sky rocketing, roads pathetic and congested, population bursting at the seams. Yet, a premium for living here. Humph!

Tax me.. I’d love to contribute but give me my rights as a citizen in return.. the least of which is a clean city, responsive cops, alert administrators, integrity in judiciary, honest politicians, affordable health and medicare. if not then done blame is for feeling swindled, robbed, cheated out of our hard earned dough.

Some day..soon..perhaps

  2. Kaveetaa..this is such a sore point with me that i agree with every word you have said. Mumbai is one of the most expensive cities to live in and the WORST as far as convenience of living goes. SRk can afford to laugh all the way to the bank even after the 27 cr.Some just have it too good

  4. But has he actually done this to be an honest citizen or becoz his C.A. was not clever enough to avoid it?
i cant believe that someone in his right senses would pay 27 crores to this crappy govt..and yeah wish he’d fund me a course in NYU 2. We’d be a lot more thankful than this shit govt and also put it 2 good use.

  5. Its good to know that Shahrukh khan and Mr.Big B’s family paid the tax, but one question is that do we have only 4 stars in the entire bollywood ? What happened to the rest of the Bollywood Team. If thats the case, then we need to see that everyone watches only these 4 stars films and the rest to be banned, as they are pocketing everything into their pocket out of public expense and they care a damn to give back to the society, atleast in terms of the Tax which is mandatory.

What you say Guys ??? Realize, lets see that they dont loot our pockets anymore, we have given our sizebale income to make these stars settle very well in their life, but what about others ?

    Just give a thought !!!

  6. @Krishnan..One can be sure thats more from where the 27 cr has come. SRK surely isnt a philanthropist perhaps an upright citizen.

LOl Sujoy… Want me to put in a word for you?

Neha..U 2 eh? yeah but your bit about putting it to better use is on the dot babe.

@ Toby..you have a valid point there.the link provided has given details of a few more like Akshay and hrithik. But in the final analysis I guess we can count them on the fingers of two hands at the most. Why India has produced only a handful of stars is worthy of debate. The reasons to me are obvious but the solution not anywhere in sight. Guaranteed box office returns is a BIG attraction for any producer, which the stars by mere presence in a film ensure. Since their fees is exorbitatnt a big budget is needed which ensures a better film in that sense. since the film normally recovers its cost the project is viable. Contrarily a ‘starless film’ can at best summon up a modest budget which leads to restrictive creativity which further leads to a less than perfect or hugely mounted film which then does not garner enough collections at the B.O.

So the stars get starrier and the others remain in the periphery despite talent. Our masses are largely to blame. there arent enough connoisseurs of cinema without stars. So much like Corporate india where the rich get richer at the cost of the poor.. Bollywood is no different.
