The BMC and its officiandos, with their activities or rather lack of it have been the bane of many a life in Mumbai. We suffer in the manner guided by our ‘tattvas'(attributes)..’Satvik’ mind would take the ignominies with beatific calm serenity exuding demeanour, The ‘Tamasik” would drown further into depression and defeat, while the ‘Rajsik’ would take it as a clarion call to rid the scene of these corrupt creatures.. Where is the connection between Hinduism and B.M.C.? Heres another reaction to ineptitude of governing officials when citizens apart from pulling their hair in disgust, also turn to philosophy for help and guidance.
Just read the plight of two women who have been harassed beyond narration.
Please do your best in whatever capacity..
From my side, a strongly worded correspondence is going to reach the concerned officials soon.
Any coincidence that the suffering ‘two’ happen to be women?? Again!
i read it. disgusted is how i feel.
id like to tell u abt sumthing that made me equally disgusted mam. we had hired a painter 2 repaint the house when it was being renovated. he left sum parts of the work undone. he strolled in after a year to claim an advance apparently for the work which was left. mamma said she wud pay him but first he shud finish the work. he said he was busy n that he cudnt promise wit exactitude as to when he could do it.
for apprx 30 mins my mum haggled with him. he got dirty. literally. i went to see what was happening. he was refusing to budge, probably under the compulsive urge for a drink. he was talking with utmost disrespect when papa returned. he just said- chalo niklo yahan se and whoa the man was off.
my mother is a professor of pol science in the lucknow university n that day it made me realize that all her qualification went down the drains for the man just saw her as a woman and nothing more. ive also felt that at times when ive expressed dissent at sumthing wrong, ive been looked upon as doing sumthing really funny. it definitely is hard out there. id say im so lucky that i don move in a circle where every second man eyes me, but then i do think abt the poor slum girls who are victims of routinal exploitation. privacy is alien to them. they are too innocent to even see the dirt playing in the minds of the rickshawala type of males around them. childhood is lost n adolesence is a phase they would choose to forget. we have a girl child day celebrated annually at our school. ive spoken to sum of the slum girls and they probably dont even know what sex is, that they shouldnt allow a male to touch them without consent. its a real sad scene out there.
god..ive filled up too much. mam ul have a post on this on my blog soon.im with u in all of this.

I agree. Women are prone to get sidelined a lot more. cannot believe that even in this day and age such open flouting of rules and regulations is so rampant. What the hell is thebuilding society doing? obviously it is too chicken to come out openly in favour of the chawla women. poor things.Imagine living under the threat of a falling roof!! What good all the clout and money the guy Bhandari has if he lacks decency!!So how can one not see the logic that Mumbai is the rudest city?? its not as if there arent other cases of the kind.

blame it on the education system of this country! i mean do they teach u ethics? do they teach u just rules of the game of life? do they really teach u that before weighin out qualities n qualifications, its just two individualz! hell no! its till the ‘fair’ and the ‘unfair’ sexes… pun intended!!
n livin with fear n oppression.. we have really not looked to uplift the social strata below the poverty line; the unequal expansion of socio-economic fabric has torn in2 the moral lines.. n the tender gender wud bear the brunt.

i agree with dim and der bergwind both…we need to learn ethics…we need to learn not only basic sex education but also sexual politics/morality(rakhi and mika case!) in schools and by our parents… with films and ads and books doing what they are doing we need alternative education
but i can totally imagine the same predicament faced by a 62 year old man and a 92 year old man…
we have scant respect for age also not just gender….

dim poetry,
it is sooo right your depiction.. universal actually. My ego gets a terrible beating when hours of my polite, angry, logical, rational, entreaties, threatenings go for a toss and hubby just has to make an appearance and the guys will suddenly break into a smile and all co-operative and apologetic . The matter is solved in minutes. It is so true. Women are bullied especially in India. But not one to give up I have devised ways of getting things done ..trade secrets another time:)
Puja,
the society bit has flummoxed me as well.. they cannot afford to take sides so blatantly. Wonder what those poor women must doing with such apathy and lack of sympathy.
der bergwind and silbil,
I have for long now cribbed that the media too does not do its bit in highlighting stories of goodness, kindness and those which shine forth the human angle ..Society needs to be buffered against ‘bad news’ some times.. We are upto here with incidents of rape, crime and debauchery.. they wallop the front pages of all tabloids and channels.. while a humane endeavour will get the fifth column on the eighth page..result.. most feel kindness is outdated, old fashioned and passe, so why indulge it..
Leaders and icons are a rarity ain the right sense, so where are the followers?

there wud be no leaderz in utopia.. maybe we as a pack are not mature enuf for that but therez always the nulll to start counting from! media is an industry u must remember, as are the doctors, lawyers and the politicians nowadayz are also conglomerates of the highest order. page3 is imp. nowadayz i guess people wait for the city supplementz more nowadayz rather than lookin in2 the editorail… so its us who determine wat they wud sell.. n its us who have crooked intentionz and so its again us who wud be victim.. sumday.. sumway…
media is only a ‘medium’ of making that happen.. n looks like we are on the trot!
