Meanwhile…

October this year has been a time of festivity..what with Dassera, Karva Chauth and now Diwali all coming up in quick succession… Not complaining..plain overworked. Shopping, tailoring, coupled with the fetish for a squeaky clean home to herald ‘Dhanteras’ can lead to taut nerves and a short fuse..Am extremely unpopular with domestic helpers, these days. That I appear with two horns, a tail and red eyes even in their dreams is a possibility.Oh well!!…shall win them over with gifts.

Kavita Chhibbers e mag has some interesting articles this month..mine included. Ahh now, modesty is a virtue for the faint hearted. Sounding hopelessly out of character? I hear yoo..The time of the year m’dear..(sigh) will get better in a week or so..promise.

One of the lessons I’d imbibed early in life was the transcience of all things materialistic. Included in that categorisation was, believe-it-or-not, fame,’fickle fame on a shifty plate’ It frightened, unnerved, rattled me. Something within, made me cringe at every opportunity that remotely led toward the direction of an in-the-face existence. Whilst tainting every joyous occasion with suffering in remembrance is not advisable, our sages therefore in their wisdom, appointed a certain time of the year to honour them. This period of 16 days which ended today, is known as ‘Shraadh’ or Pitrapaksh” . It is recommended that new ventures, business, or clothing not be bought during the length of Shraadha. (more…)

On 27th of August I had wrtten a post on Abu Salems plans to join Politics. When pondering on the title, decided to link it with a film released 14 years ago “Raju ban Gaya gentleman”, satirically, considering synchronicity of aspirations and therefore named it ‘Abu Salem Ban Gaya Gentleman?’..note the question mark. images.jpgKaran Johar has indicted the treatise of marriage as a committment. What comes through pre-dominantly as the raison d’etre of this enterprise is, to present the notion of ‘holy matrimony’ as a nebulous institution open to a re-definition, where accepted norms have been questioned, vows overlooked, sanctity ignored. All this with a plaintiff ‘cry of the soul’manner of treatment, a refuge in stars gracng the scenes with their glitzy presence and in a sense lending weight to what might have otherwise been a half baked attempt of reviewing an (more…)
