Your Title Is Mine! Online Plagiarism

On 27th of August I had wrtten a post on Abu Salems plans to join Politics. When pondering on the title, decided to link it with a film released 14 years ago “Raju ban Gaya gentleman”, satirically, considering synchronicity of aspirations and therefore named it ‘Abu Salem Ban Gaya Gentleman?’..note the question mark.

I was informed by a well wisher that on this Google page he discovered another blogger at Sulekha Premendra Aggarwal who had lifted the title, complete with the question mark, only added a ‘toa ‘( I have no inkling what that means) so as to make it “Abu Salem Toa ban Gaya Gentleman?” and posted it two days LATER.

By any stretch of imagination, this cannot mirror as a coincidence. It is plain, pure, plagiarism!

Annoying and highly unethical, I would say. If he had in fact liked it so much, all that was needed was a mail asking permisssion for its usage.

I have posted a comment on his blog expressing my objection thus

” Mr.Agarwal, I had written an article titled ‘Abu Salem ban gaya Gentleman” on 27th August. It was brought to my notice that you have used the same title for your post two days later. Its disquietening. I wish you had found it prudent if not ethical to get my permission. In cyberspace, where information is only a click away, one ought to be discerning. this is the link: https://sachiniti.wordpress.com/2006/08/27/abu-salem-ban-gaya-gentleman/#more-165

Another example recently with the title Pesti Cola…I had coined the term on 5th August, as the date and comments section show as also this google page.. The Now Public link is Sachiniti’s, while other Pesti Cola references quoted are dated later.

(sigh) If imitation be the best form of flattery, I am indeed flattered. Cannot help feeling a tinge of dismay at the flagrant misuse of information access attributes of cyberspace..’brain picking’ is not recommended and highly objectionable.

  5. Thanks Sanjay. It pleases me immensely to know what you mean. In any case I desisted from treating it as a biggie. Needed to voice my objection. Having done that, moved on.
