The BCCI has once again proven that is the single most controversial non governmental body. This time it has outdone itself by embarking on a tomfoolery riot in a matter outside the periphery of cricket, into a sphere which is as much revered. The iconic Shahrukh Khan. Of the three that can whip up a fanatical frenzy for Indians, inexplicable and irrational, one is umm..sex, the other cricket and then SRK..not particularly in that order..Wonder what would occur if the three appeared combined, by an act of God…which adds on the ‘religion’ as the fourth.
Apparently a Mr. Ratnakar Shetty, allegedly { 🙂 } a senior cricket board official passed some rather disturbing remarks about Shahrukhs participation in the cricket series concluded recently and his continuous presence in matches that followed. Ironically , he was ‘invited’ by a certain section of BCCI officials and later criticised for his presence by another set. Any wonder then our cricket team selection is always riddled by controversy…Is that what one of the ‘c’ stands for?
Mr. Shetty solemnly averred, that SRK’s intention seemed dubious? Why? Oh! he wasnt there to watch no cricket match! He was there to promote OSO! Poor Mr. Shetty, already perplexed, grappling with concerns to do with our National obsession..rudely disturbed from his pensive frame of mind.
Mr. Shetty’s chosen words ‘highly debatable’ to do with SRKs seemingly innocuous presence, is to my mind ‘highly debatable’ as well. Sorry Mr. Shetty… you asked for it. Suffering form ‘foot-in-mouth-disease’ must be highly embarrassing now thats its National news. Thank God it isnt contagious.. or is it, considering the erstwhile gentleman is a member of the erstwhile BCCI?
Shahrukh Khan is rightly miffed with BCCI .
A visibly hurt Khan said in Mumbai that “God has given me enough and I don’t crave publicity”.
“I went to watch the match for the love of the sport. It is not in my nature to promote my films in others’ platforms,” he said.
“I think it is strange that just because I am popular, I can’t take my children to watch a spectator sport without creating some kind of ill will or ill thought in the mind of people. I am very disappointed,” Khan said.
Khan wryly said, “Maybe I will just send the children next time and tell them not say they are my children.”
Khan said he is not going to watch cricket matches in the future if it has not gone down well with the BCCI. He said he had gone to watch the Jaipur match for the love of the sport.
Oh c’mon now SRK..this is the BCCI! Backscratchers Cacophonous Club of India. Treat them with kindness and deference. In other words…IGNORE THEM.
As also consider this: your outburst has in fact accorded MR. Ratnakar Shetty his ‘moment in the sun’ in a sad desultory life of attending ‘chai and samosa’ meetings. Its reverse psychology at work here SRK. Mr. Shetty is in fact using your name to inflict publicity on himself.. ‘itna naam hua ke badnaam ho gaye”

for bcci the world begins and ends with them. kapil dev came and backed SRk and also other members thought this was a foolish remark. vengsarkar is also in troule with them cuz he wrote a column or something. They want to have control over everything. That “C” for control they are taking very seriously..lol

Neha did you hear Navjyot singh Siddhus rebuttal. It was hillarious and hard hitting at the sam time. He didnt mince his words when he said that BCCI has no right to treat Vengsarkar like a pet poodle! Vengsarkar in his opinion ought to have refused to budge. he is writing a column as a means of livelihood and the BCCI where he is an honorary member working au gratis has no right to demand that he stop writing. It happens nowhere in the world. Most cricketers have columns.It is in extremely bad taste that BCCI is presenting itself as an autocratic, despotic body with no credentials to back its stance.

I agree, they have every right to watch the match like any other citizen but not promote films( atleast the cameraman should have ignored them).Nobody promotes their film(even if it’s CDI) at a hockey tournament it has to be cricket ground.Yes BCCI is stupid , but not in this case, i don’t know why they took their words back later(i see Rajeev Shukla’s hand in this)
I don’t understand their sudden love for the game .I want to quiz Deepika on cricket .
And there are some stars who are real game lovers like Saif …

packaging is an important part of life, today… presentation, articulation n the glitters do generate the initial fervor. hez an actor albeit a successful one! and maybe BCCI has people who do politicking more tan cricket-seva.. where cricket never measures upto the global levels – but why complain since they r making money.. now enter SRK with type-cast looks in-line with the latest movie.. leading lady in tow and people miss the action @ grnd – even our Kaptan Dhoni blushes to see u-know-who 🙂
its just a case of bloated egos. SRK making gud business riding the game of cricket.. SRK using the harmless arena to sell his wares – piggy backin on indian cricket aur BCCI misses on a cut! SRK can pay a royalty n watch all the games.. no one wud complain i guess… its abt fooling each other n just abt a non-issue.
BCCI missin on a royal hafta n monsieur khan taking another cheeky single 🙂
the other day @ food court in a blore mall, forum, saw a lady giving a presentation using her laptop – there was another lady seeing that. it was abt some english language software.. those interactive angreeji sikho package… cool business idea on zero investment 🙂 n they hadnt even ordered for a coffee :)) srk at least waves to the crowd n gives sum autographs on the way…

Hi Sapt..but dont you think BCCI ought to focus on what they gain by SRK rather than presume heavily on what was SRK’s ulterior motive in attending the event?After all he was invited there. By virtue of him being an actor whose film was on the verge of release, it is obvious that on a chit chat with the press oso will figure. I am not for a minute disclaiming what you and Aneesh have pointed out. It is true.. Deepikas presence was tell tale. But all the same BCCI bringin it up reflects on a petty mindedness they are already infamous for
And not to forget..yeah chanda mama is up to tricks enough to send the hormones of all varieties kickin in all directions 🙂
Aneesh.. I get your point.. but what exactly do you mean by ‘promote’? Its not as if he was holding placards of OSo or playing its music in the tea break:)Yes..the woman was carried along..but hey no big deal man. Think about it.. A stadium of say 20 grand or 30 or 40 watched him that day. By Shetty making a big hulla balloo the nation got to know of it. So the BCCI has inadvertently afforded OSO more publicity off the field than on. How moronic is that? PLus consider that OSO was watched by million on the opening weekend itself..this was a chicken feed number which was in question. A lil harmless promotion.ne’er hurt no one.. After all its all show biz.. cricket or SRK… or why would crickis endorse products?

now come on SRK invited is nothing special… all the club-house ticx are like for special people… tat wayz i have been ‘invited’ to Eden Gardens, Calcutta, many a time 🙂 – being a member of local cric body.. gettin the special ticx aint that difficult…
so… therez nothing to utlilize or discount… just abt the main focus…
SRK is not a newbie n his subtle ways are more than enuf to generate the euphoria n then ya.. the movie gets the driverz seat n cric toh sirf bahana hi reh jata hain 🙂

Sapt Aneesh I donno if you guys saw the finals of Voice of India where Lata Mangeshkar was invited to announce the name of the winner. Before she did the honors she presented the final two with diamond studded watches preceded by a speech on ‘Swaranjali” her diamond brand, and she made it amply clear she had designed these watches herself.What would you call this ?and mind you it was hard core..not just ‘implied’ promotion which SRK might have indulged in by tagging Deepika along. Should Star plus bosses now create a controversy by questioning her motives ?
To carry on..Every reality show boasts of special judges unique to that episode who usually comprise of a team whose films are slated for release presently. There was Madhuri Dixit gracing every show possible for the last coupla weeks promoting AAja nachle.
Prior to that it was the Saawariya and Oso team..if not the stars, then their parents (Rishi, Neetu, Anil Kapoor) were participating in the show as well as promoting their films. Do we conclude that lata thereofre ‘used’this platform to advertise her brand or rather in a more pragmatic fashion deduce that she exploited this opportunity to also talk of something she was involved in.
Think about it. It is ubiquitous and to my mind hurts nobody. Bcci’s statement therefore rankled me. They ought to worry their brains of limited capacity with more worthy problems…methinks.

I haven’t seen the entire show ,but after ur comment i see no difference in real N surreal …Anyway ,are you following Nach baliye, jhalak..,bol baby bol etc.. ?I follow Nach Baliye now n then for Rakhi’s sound bytes,soon many more reality shows in the making?The masala U get here(reality shows) U won’t get even in the films.Really.

NB and Jhalak..while surfing sometimes. but i will miss VOI and its amaxing contestants..Abhas, I am so glad he got the judges choice award.. Toshi, Harshit..My least favourite was Ishmit and ofcourse the whole of India except Punjab agreed.Although winning the contest has little meaning if you dont get work. Harshit will be a star on the horizon.

now now… all these star-studded reality shows filled with a lotta “Evaluation” “Judgement” & “Assessment” – do you believe that there is no monies involved.. now! tat wud be too sweet for a diabetic (only here the addiction is sugar-sweet money!) television industry to ignore. the movies, albums, brands, products – everything promoted thru these so-called reality shows cost money nah?!
BCCI is giving a piggy bac ride to SRK as he waves his way to the box-office n the pot-bellied officials of a sloth BCCI are hurt 🙂 the lubrication always helps – so its no big deal.
SRK knows how to sell his cinema n i respect him for that – he wants the junta to phuko money on OSO – n he knows how to win the crowd, knows where to address n meet them also…
i guess we are going arnd in loops over this one – india wins the first test n loved a stoic respectful kumble at the helm – the old dogs giving the charge – sourav, sachin, laxman… kumble himself… oh man!! SRK n his ‘enna rascala’ moves can evaporate… n so can the BCCI – after a long time.. it was a team, honest n simple without any show, pomp and high noise of youth, playing n winning…
why do we always miss the moment.. n harp on the wrong string… arre babu neh footage khaya.. OSO – let there be peace… bahut bhao kha liya… SRK really knowz wer to tickle u till the monies ring.
