Update 24th Oct 07: Amarmani Tripathi, his wife Madhumani and an associate have been sentenced to life imprisonment in the Madhumita Shukla murder case. Amarmani was allegedly having an affair with this young poetess, who he impregnated and then allegedly got murdered. Despite threats to witnesses, he has been charged. Unexpected but dfinitely a welcome indictment.
Update: As expected/predicted Anil Ambani faces roadblock for his SEZ venture approved by Mulayam Singh govt..But it will finally dwindle down into a mere ‘roadblock’ bartered and removed..Honestly how predictable can these politicos get!

Mayawati winning hands down did come as a surprise..but its not as if one went into a swoon and fell off the chair on reading of her thumping majority ( the first time in 14 years that U.P. will not have a milli juli sarkar- BSP has raced ahead capturing more than 2o8 seats.. with SP (Samajwadi party) Mulayam singh getting only 93, while Congress not even on the map) How this will affect Amar Singhs coterie and his hazaar industries in collaboration with his friends Ab and Anil Ambani is a matter of conjecture..Mayawati is poised for a huge battle.. odds on her side…as also the stacks!

My personal gossip news vine is Shirin- a beautician who comes by once a month, to help satisfy my compulsive vain urges. The fact that she is also a favourite with other filmi folk lends to the credibility of spicy tidbits interspersed with her routine, which she offers most willingly, free of cost. Mostly its a monologue..me with my eyes closed, trying earnestly to relax away my blues while she chatters away undeterred..Responsiveness is not a criteria she bothers herself much with…and neither is she impressed with subtle piquant wit. I often sense the similarity with the Vijay-Basanti (Sholay) catatonic syndrome.. y’know what I mean. (more…)

Saw a movie which is considered quite a ‘cult film’ by most cinephiles and also enormously inspiring by some makers. It is certainly not your quintessential ‘worth-a-watch’ film. Primarily because it needs you to be attentive, mature and intelligent. It pre-supposes the inherent sharpness of the viewer..such a diametrically differing standpoint from the Indian cinegoers perspective, since he enters a cinema hall to lose himself and surrender to the sensibilities of the maker. While films such as ‘Eternal Sunshine of a spotless mind’ demand that you ‘grow up’ and watch the meanderings of the script with your senses alert.
No, this is not a review of the film. In fact it would be a trifle difficult to indulge in that exercise. (more…)
