Update 24th Oct 07: Amarmani Tripathi, his wife Madhumani and an associate have been sentenced to life imprisonment in the Madhumita Shukla murder case. Amarmani was allegedly having an affair with this young poetess, who he impregnated and then allegedly got murdered. Despite threats to witnesses, he has been charged. Unexpected but dfinitely a welcome indictment.
Update: As expected/predicted Anil Ambani faces roadblock for his SEZ venture approved by Mulayam Singh govt..But it will finally dwindle down into a mere ‘roadblock’ bartered and removed..Honestly how predictable can these politicos get!
————————————————————————————
Mayawati winning hands down did come as a surprise..but its not as if one went into a swoon and fell off the chair on reading of her thumping majority ( the first time in 14 years that U.P. will not have a milli juli sarkar- BSP has raced ahead capturing more than 2o8 seats.. with SP (Samajwadi party) Mulayam singh getting only 93, while Congress not even on the map) How this will affect Amar Singhs coterie and his hazaar industries in collaboration with his friends Ab and Anil Ambani is a matter of conjecture..Mayawati is poised for a huge battle.. odds on her side…as also the stacks!
But the rather shocking bit of news is this
India’s masses always let you down..
Its left me speechless. D.P. Yadav is the father of Vikas Yadav, the main accused in the Nitish Katara murder case.
Amar mani Tripathi and his wife are presently fighting allegations of murder of his pregnant mistress Madhumita Shukla. Tripathi is lodged in the Dehradun District jail. No deterrent for winning an election. Just what was the mandate?? what were the masses voting in favour of ? What were they thinking for Gods sake? Illiteracy and ignorance is the curse of India.
Raja Bhaiyya is a notorious criminal also presently serving a jail sentence.
There is no shadow of doubt that this would never have been the outcome of an election in Maharashtra, Kerala, Calcutta..which does not denote that the politicians are anointed with saintliness here but rather that blatant criminals would not have received such overwhelming support.
Words fail you at such times. Whatever hope one might have built up as to the cleaning up of corruption and de-criminilisation of politics, the rising awareness of the proleteriat, the resounding voice of the common man , is as if rent asunder at this news.
All one can say is ‘Mera Bharat Mahaan’ …such a forgiving nation.. WE forgive our oppressors so magnanimously dont we?
What one sometimes cannot forgive oneself is for having taken the decision to stay back .. stay and fight.. But for how long and to what avail?? This was an election.. majority votes went in favour of these goons. If this is a reflection of the deterioration of moral boundaries with blurring of lines, then where is the question of resurgent hope?
BTW Muslims are no longer a minority in U.P…this has been declared by the courts after referring to the census.
Who is in the minority? The honest man, with healthy ethics and unwavering principles..numbers have dwindled forever.
Come to your own conclusions.. I have reached mine !
Hi Kaveetha,
“Its happens only in India” but thanks to the EC.In our country ,People are left with no choice… all parties fail to keep their promises and we shamelessly elect them .The root cause of all the problems is we haven’t got freedom with bloodshed and we don’t value freedom ,British left us after looting(for nearly 200 years) ..sorry i don’t agree with ahimsa ,satyagrahas alone…what really surprised me.. was within minutes after results declared ” the official records are destroyed… “-SAMAJBARDADHI PARTY .Now who is going to hold the record for bad governance is the question?lets wait and watch…Also now Mr.Aamir bhaiya has more time to spend with his good friends ,he can make trips to pilgrims et al and during the UP polls he was busy with Abhiash wedding(nothing offensive) – this has shown its impact in the poll results. The campaign “UP mein dum hain …zurm yahaan kum..” was utter failure ,people want real development not stars.

Mayawati and the Taj scandal where she has been accused of granting favors is also incriminating. Now that she has won everything will be swept under the carpet. If you are a criminal you have to be a politician..then you can be assured of freedom…that is the sorry state of our country today.

Hi Laxmi,
Absolutely.. people want to see tangible results. Perhaps the reason why SP was booted out.. although anti incumbency is a factor which cannot be ruled out. But given this scenario what therefore further confounds is why the four dons have been elected? Just what were the people voting into power if not SP?
Hi Dilip,
Politics is the safe haven of goons today. Nothing can be more disturbing than the fact that on one hand we proclaim ‘India poised’..”India Shining” and what have you ….and simultaneously those in jails are being VOTED to power. This was one instance where I would have felt mighty comfortable if informed that the elections were rigged. Atleast there would have been solace in the knowledge that perhaps Indian voters are not as imbecilic.
