Gautama The Buddha- Teachings

Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.

What we think, we become.

Do not overrate what you have received, nor envy others. He who envies others does not obtain peace of mind.

The whole secret of existence is to have no fear. Never fear what will become of you, depend on no one. Only the moment you reject all help are you freed.

An insincere and evil friend is more to be feared than a wild beast; a wild beast may wound your body, but an evil friend will wound your mind.

Neither fire nor wind, birth nor death can erase our good deeds.

To be idle is a short road to death and to be diligent is a way of life; foolish people are idle, wise people are diligent.

Words have the power to both destroy and heal. When words are both true and kind, they can change our world.

Anger will never disappear so long as thoughts of resentment are cherished in the mind. Anger will disappear just as soon as thoughts of resentment are forgotten.

Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.

Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one getting burned.

–Buddha

  4. Krishna..glad you thought so.

Neha.. Isi liye to…Ponder and imbibe sweetie.

    Haha..Sapt

Buddhas sayings can neither be improved, added, or subtracted.. so thought it wise to plainly reproduce.

But why bother..there are 150 other posts to debate on Sapt..And ofcourse you can disagree with The Buddha too..the above was just my view..

:)Looking forward to your take on it.

  5. ya, therez plenty of ‘fodder’ for thought 🙂 but always it gives a great kick wen we stand up ‘tall’ (or at least try to…) on our toes n try to sound as the learned one! again, with the freedom of speech….. life seems so damn fair! it wud be my pleasure to get a bout with the Big B.. pun not intended 🙂
its sad that the uncle sams’ blasted the Bamian Buddha and with it even the words n principles mite have taken a hit… but still the path of NV (read nonviolence n not non-veg!!) seems a magic wand we mite want nowadayz…. all the sayings and mantras i subscribe to but when i try to apply them in the markets, i find, am at a loss…. its all driven be the self and its all measured by people wearing blinkers- they are comfortably numb. i wud love an utopia but are we matured enuf to drive on a freeway?
u know all the latest issues, all the write-ups, views n subscriptions, of late, into the ‘new dawns’ of ’07…. i fully agree and again i fail to agree too coz i do not see anything affecting the life n times of the common man. even the budget this year seems too distant from the average tax payer! at work also i see, on paper, therez lots of improvements, battles won n tables turned but when it comes to field results….. its still nuts n bolts n pots n pans- stale staple….
if i argue, if i debate, i shud know how to really change the weathers… but i do not know really how can the ‘germs’ of virtues be injected inside to make a renaissance- coz thatz wat we need! to apply all these, to live with these and not just vote for/against in sum chat shows n intellectual forms (the ndtv big fight! the cnn ibn airtime n the likes….)

knowledge is a dangerous thing, in any proportion… for it makes us ignorant, indisciplined as well as makes us powerful…. i wish we use the weapons in our favor n not just let the rusts of time take away the shines from the dreams n inspirations of team india (pun intended here!!!)

  6. Sapt..Now that was a lot of thinking you did..good ..it keeps the top storey well greased 🙂 You have a point, as you mostly do.

But if one is to keep it pertinent to this post on the Big B (loved that), then consider this. The outer world as we see it or as is exposed to us through our experiences, through the maze of neurons, made intelligible to us, is a result of our own construct. The outer reflects the inner. We as a acivilisation , chose to go through the whole gamut..the reason why a certain generation experiences what it does, and so on.. This may sound alien abut this is the premise of Buddhism, as having gleaned through Vippassana.. We have to break the prison of our bodies through our minds for it never to be formed again through samskaras, or sensations.

Its a keenly authenticated view, the path which finally led to Buddhas Nirvana..vippassana meditation. So be in the world but not of it. React, but dont let it form a groove in the soul..everything is Anicca or impermanent..

  7. so.. the sermonz are seepin in deep 🙂 the big B’s on the blog-o-lite, enjoying the footage @ sachiniti for quite sumtime now 🙂

is it laziness for wordz? is it reverence? or is it nirvana that has taken you to the meta stables!!

another brick in the wall… thatz wat we all are nah? the dermis and the soul, the difference, separationz n the reflectionz.. censored/uncensored.. but in democracy the majority bullies the opposition n so in this social order, the thinkers are obliterated n the so called geeks r like cheap imitationz of the french perfume.. for the poor, survival countz n not the sermonz.. the donkeys’principle..

    awaiting another sachiniti blaster soon!

  8. Sapt, sapt, sapt,

I would have like to seven-i-fy it.. but ..lets presume I did.

Big B on my Blog..will retain centrestage till he decides otherwise I guess.

Laziness for words…Naah..you know me better than that.

Reverence..will always be, irrespective of prioritisation.

Nirvana…now thats interesting!! So ..ummmm… would you consider looking for the Halo that engulfs …my…ummm.. presence.. You will have to try real hard. If you sense it you are truly enlightened..if you dont.. then well keep trying.. you will some day…soon.

Now, adopting the best policy, I was just a tad tied up..met up with a few regulars on Sachiniti.. Siraj Khan from Nayyar sahebs post, who is writing his biography, and my dear friend Temporal from Baithak, and editor of Desicritics, who is in town…so its not as if I have been too far away from Sachiniti, spiritually.:)

Lets live out our Karma, day by day, moment by moment, free of past burdens and fears of the future.. HIS office is professionally manned, sapt, honest, conscientious, involved staff, doing as best a job as they can, with the larger blue print in full view in the BOD room, safely guarded, and kept away from human intervention..

    Take light.
